Annuitant members of the Chicago Fire Department, their widows and children may be eligible for health insurance coverage through the City of Chicago Medical Plan for Annuitants. Eligible members pay required premiums through deductions taken from their monthly annuity checks. The City of Chicago Medical Plan for Annuitants is administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois.


Under the existing contract between the City of Chicago and the International Association of Firefighters Local 2, Article XII Safety, Health & Welfare SEction 12.1 (B)(C), members that voluntarily retire after age 60 or those that are mandatorily retired at age 63 are allowed to continue in the City of Chicago Medical Plan for Active Employees until age 65.
